Crop Production and Plant Breeding

Jahrom University is one of the three universities in the country and the only university in the southern region of Iran that admitted undergraduate students in Plant Biotechnology in 2011. To increase and improve the quality of the offered majors, the new field of Production Engineering and Plant Genetics was established by merging the two fields of Agriculture and Plant Breeding and Agricultural Biotechnology in 2017. There are two sub-fields of Production Engineering and Plant Genetics, namely, agronomy and biotechnology. The students are admitted in Plant Production and Genetics and under the sub-field of Biotechnology at Jahrom University. In order to attain self-sufficiency in food and industrial raw materials, the graduates are educated with the prospect of becoming specialists and experts in Production Engineering and Plant Genetics whose knowledge and experience can be used to produce agricultural products scientifically and make the maximum use of country’s potential resources in producing agricultural products and advancing research, education and agricultural planning.

Skilled experts are required for the purpose of agricultural developments. In order to achieve the highest levels of yield and crop, these experts should be able to perform crop and horticulture related operations based on new scientific findings. Therefore, the education of technical experts, who can be considered as a link between engineers, agricultural specialists and farmers is exceptionally essential which can play a constructive role in the development of the country’s agricultural aspects.
